The January coffeehouse at Poughkeepsie was well attended for Michael Jonathan's feature. Jonathan, who is renowned for his syndicated radio show as well as his book, "Woodsongs", and several recordings of traditional folk tunes (mainly Appalachian) and his own compostions, gave a warm and polished performance. He was knowledgeable and informative in the field of folk music, and his personal anecdotes were fascinating. His music was beautifully executed on a beautiful slot-head Martin Triple-0, I believe, and banjo. His singing was poignant. Many went away with his book and its accompanying CD. I have enjoyed mine immensely. Jonathan mentioned that his radio show, which is broadcast from Kentucky and features only worthy but never famous folk artists, is on deck to be broadcast on public radio in this area.

Jonathan is originally from this area, having attended high school in Wappingers Falls. He ended his original set with a tribute to former Wappingers resident Don McLean by singing a beautiful rendition of McLean's "Vincent."

[Editor's Note: In March the feature will be Yours Truly, reading my original poetry, and April's will be John & Rebekah Martucci]
