Kingston Chapter, October 2000

Longtime Folk Guild member, performer and former newsletter editor (!) Phil Miller opened his feature set at the October coffeehouse with "First Song", jumping into the music without very much chatter. His second song, "Hell of a Way" talked about, "what ya gotta do to pay the bills and what ya gotta do to pay your soul". Another original, "Raisin River" pondered the dilemna of vineyard owners during Prohibition (assisted on this one by Vince Sauter). "Two-Song Star" is Phil's ode to open mic performers everywhere. "Over the Rainbow" took us there and "Waiting Room" allowed the audience to shout it out, standing in for Purgatory's ghouls. Vince and Kimberly joined in on that timeless singalong, "Amazing Grace". Michael Smith's "The Dutchman" closed out Phil's fine set.

Miller brings out the best in his audience, gracing the stage with wit and heart.
